The Mission of MOTEC-NYNJ

To serve as a resource for fieldwork education allowing for collaboration between Fieldwork Educators and academic fieldwork coordinators.  

To promote a supportive network fostering excellence in fieldwork education and helping students transition to competent entry level practitioners ready to meet the occupational needs of society.

MOTEC’s Philosophy

  • Encourage collaboration between academic programs and fieldwork education sites

  • Partner with Fieldwork Educators to increase quality and availability of fieldwork education sites

  • Exchange concerns, ideas and resources between academic and Fieldwork Educators

  • Ensure that fieldwork education supports current and emerging practice areas

  • Encourage students to promote occupation-centered intervention and evidence based practice in the fieldwork settings

  • Encourage students and Fieldwork Educators to engage in science driven, evidence based practice to support reimbursement of occupational therapy services.

Purpose of MOTEC

  • Promote provision of quality clinical and doctoral capstone education for occupational therapy and occupational therapy assistant students through activities, resources, and collaborations supported by MOTEC funds.

  • Encourage collaborative relationships among educational programs, doctoral capstone coordinators, and clinical education sites—funds may be used to facilitate meetings, trainings, and initiatives that advance these relationships.

  • Promote activities to increase the quantity and quality of fieldwork and doctoral capstone education sites and experiences, including workshops, training sessions, and site development efforts supported by MOTEC funds.

  • Foster a spirit of support and mentorship among academic fieldwork coordinators, doctoral capstone coordinators, and fieldwork educators in the field—MOTEC funds shall prioritize professional development opportunities that strengthen these connections.

  • Provide a forum for collaborative problem solving and innovation related to fieldwork and doctoral capstone education in occupational therapy, including the use of funds to support networking, events, and resource creation.

  • Ensure that clinical and capstone education for occupational therapy students reflects current and emerging practice trends through activities and initiatives financially supported by MOTEC.

  • Support the ongoing education and professional development of fieldwork educators and site mentors, with MOTEC funds specifically allocated to training programs, recognition initiatives, and dissemination of best practices.
